Anthony T. Matrejek has been involved in theatre since he was 6 years old performing as JoJo the Who with Kids’N’Company in El Paso, Texas. After moving to Wilson, North Carolina, he auditioned for Act For Youth’s production of
School House Rock having sung these classic hits from the Saturday morning cartoons forever (Thanks Mom and Dad). The theatre bug bit and has been a part of his life ever since. The whole family ended up getting involved becoming a fly dad, volunteer coordinator, board member, light designer, sound operators, stage managers and even joining Anthony on stage and finding out they love the attention as well. After performing in over 34 productions with various companies including: Playhouse of Wilson, Farmville Theatre, Imperial Arts Centre of Rocky Mount, and even the regional North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh; Anthony moved to South Carolina for school and more opportunities. At the University of South Carolina, Anthony explored a new medium of acting by portraying the beloved mascot Cocky. Having the once in a lifetime opportunity to entertain the masses and dance his way to the Final Four is irreplaceable but the stage was calling him back. Town Theatre in Columbia adopted Anthony for 5 productions the following year, ultimately providing him the connections to move to Charleston upon graduation. In Charleston, he hit the ground running, debuting at Footlight Players in
The Addams Family (Ancestor), this was followed with featured roles in
Vanya, Sanya, Masha, & Spike (Spike),
Singing in the Rain (Cosmo), and
Heathers: The Musical (Kurt). Somehow his performances here were recognized and he was offered a position at the Charleston Riverdogs to assist Charlie and Chelsea come to life every Summer. Juggling all these jobs he still managed to audition for Charleston Stage and after joining the cast of
Mamma Mia (Ensemble) he was invited into the Acting Ensemble where he has been granted the opportunity to perform with Charleston Stage ever since in roles such as Skip Rollins in Julian Wiles’ 2023 production of
JFK and Inga Binga and
The Prom. Anthony has also ventured over to Threshold Repertory Theatre to design & manage multiple shows while also performing in the
Cat in the Hat (The Cat) and
Della’s Diner (Ronnie Frank). Most recently Anthony ventured back to Columbia, SC to play the ever so humble William Shakespeare in
Something Rooten at Town Theatre.
